Justified or not, the US has been involved around the world helping support and tear down governments. The American Imperialism has provided benefits and destructiveness around the world. Debates rage whether the good outweighs the bad, and strong points are made on both sides.
US Imperialist Doctrines:
The Monroe Doctrine of 1823 declared that the United States had an interest in the Western Hemisphere and that European powers must not meddle in the affairs of any developing nations there
The idea of manifest destiny in the 1830s began as settlers moved west and took control of the territories from the Indians. It grew into the belief that American culture was superior and divinely ordained.
An overabundance of industrial goods in the late 1800s led the United States to look for new markets abroad.
European imperialism in Africa and Asia caused the US to adopt an expansionist policy to look for ways to secure its own economic future.
