CARD 47 - Vietnam War - Beginnings
Ho Chi Mihn He was a nationalist seeking independence for his country, which had been colonized by France for over 40 years. He was born in North Vietnam, trained in Moscow, worked for US military intelligence in WWII, was sympathetically pro-American, financed by the US, adopted a constitution similar to that of the US, and originally disbanded the Communist party.
Through economic and military support, the US gave Indochina (Vietnam) back to the French in 1945 and then to the Diem regime in1954. Betrayed, Ho Chi Mihn fought for independence. He formed a Communist party to help overthrow the French and gain independence.
